We always find things to like wherever we travel, but we could live in San Diego. The weather is perfect, with July temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. The waterfront has so much happening, and the restaurants are top-notch.
Dan and Brandi are engaged
We added San Diego to our itinerary primarily because my nephew Dan Sperl moved here last year and met his future wife, Brandi. Unfortunately, we can’t make it to their wedding at the end of September because we leave for Spain and Portugal that day.
It was about one year ago that my brother Kevin, Dan’s Dad, passed away. I am so glad Dan and I are staying in touch; I like being Aunt Kathy.
One day, we took a Kayak excursion at La Jolla Sea Caves, which was wet and fun. The next day, we saw the San Diego Padres beat the Atlanta Braves 4-0! I hadn’t attended a ballgame in a long time, but it was a fun afternoon.
The USS Midway is now in San Diego
We arrived in San Diego early, so we had the day to ourselves. Bill wanted to see the USS Midway on the waterfront. It was incredible to spend several hours learning the history and hearing the stories of bravery. We had never been on an Aircraft Carrier before; it’s like a large city! The volunteers and staff were so helpful and so well-informed. The USS Midway was commissioned in 1945, two years before I was born, and housed 4,500 crewmembers!
I had always heard that the weather in San Diego was perfect; now I know that it’s true! We could live in San Diego!
Next, we’ll continue Up the California Coast!
