My Retirement Stories

Visit to Delaware

This was our first visit to Delaware since we sold our Active Adults Realty brokerage to Bill & Christine Davis. They have continued to build the business, adding more agents and a second location. We couldn’t be prouder about how they made Active Adults Realty their own. Now we’re visitors and the first people we met for dinner – Bill & Christine.

Pickleball

The second thing we did was schedule to play pickleball at Plantations. It was fun to reconnect with people we played with for years; I even remember most of their names! In Islamorada, we play outdoors 4 or 5 times a week. Playing indoors after all this time is very different; the glare from overhead lights is almost as bad as the sun in your eyes. But we signed up for the scheduled Wednesday and Friday group as long as we’re here.

From Resident to Visitor

It’s a little strange being back in Delaware as a visitor. I lived in Delaware longer than anywhere except in New Jersey, where I grew up. We filled our calendar with dinner get-togethers with past co-workers and friends. Here we are at FishOn!, one of our go-to restaurants, with two terrific agents/friends, Amy Kellenberger and Francine Balinskas.

On another night, we took Judy Robinson and John, her partner, to dinner at another favorite restaurant – Fins. Bill and Judy’s birthdays are a few days apart at the end of June. Our celebration is a little late, but celebrate we did.

The Grandkids

I never had children, but Bill has three. Two of them still live in Delaware; between them, we now have three grandchildren. We didn’t plan it, but we’re glad we were in town for Riley’s 13th birthday. As you can see, she is now taller than me! Not to burst her bubble, but I did share that I was this tall at 13; then, I stopped growing.

I love Lewes

A walk in Cape Henlopen State Park with my dear friend and walking buddy, Sophie, followed by lunch at Nectar, is my idea of a perfect day in Lewes. Sophie and I used to meet weekly for our walk, spending time catching up on our lives and venting about all the things happening in the world. I miss those walks.

Of course, I stopped in to visit everyone at Twila Farrell, my favorite clothing store. I even wore the last dress I bought before we moved to Islamorada. It’s a dress I can and do wear often.

Then, I joined Christine Davis at the Second Street office of Active Adults Realty, where we shot a video talking about my retirement life. I love that she has continued what I started, producing videos featuring the agents, staff, and clients. Bill and I would never have sold our company to a faceless corporation. When Bill and Christine Davis came along, we were comfortable immediately that they were the right buyers. Everything I see now reassures us that we made the correct decision.
