My Retirement Stories

Santa Fe is sublime

Santa Fe is sublime. Several friends lived here at one point and always spoke of it longingly. This was my first time visiting Santa Fe, but I doubt it will be my last. Look at the fantastic views from Santa Fe Skies RV Park in the featured image above!

The Art is incredible

As an artist, I fell in love with all the local art. In every gallery, I found artists that blew my mind. The colors, the bold strokes and images, and the incredible variety were impressive.

The Railyard Arts District

We explored the Railyard Arts District and Farmer’s Market on one of our first days in Santa Fe. The assortment of fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and more was the best since moving away from Lewes, Delaware. We could only buy what would fit in our rather small Airstream refrigerator but snacked through the market. Right next door is the Santa Fe Artists’ Market, open every Saturday 9 am-2 pm at the railyard in Santa Fe. We visited the Artists’ booths and saw some beautiful and unique pieces. I could not resist buying a new pair of gorgeous earrings from Turza & Andrew Shows, which they told me was made by their son.

It’s a Small World

Wherever we go, we always seem to run into someone we know or who knows our friends. In this case, we met a couple from Ft. Lauderdale playing pickleball in Sedona! Also, they were staying at the same RV Park, and they knew a good friend through pickleball in Ft. Lauderdale! Santa Fe Skies RV Park was a beautiful, friendly park in a great location. I make it a point to book locally-owned or family-owned parks wherever possible, and this park is a great example of why. Supporting these local businesses not only enriches our travel experiences but also contributes to the local economy. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and they gave great advice on things to do and restaurant suggestions.

Margarita at El Farol

One of the best restaurants they recommended was Maria’s. The New Mexican menu was awesome, the margarita was the best (they have the most extensive list of Margaritas I’ve ever seen), and the service was excellent. Another great restaurant we visited on our last night in Santa Fe was recommended by friends back in Key Largo – El Farol! Bill had the paella, one of the best he’s ever had, and I had the salmon, which was also one of the best I have ever had.

Canyon Road Santa Fe

MORE THAN A HUNDRED GALLERIES, BOUTIQUES, AND RESTAURANTS IN ONE HALF MILE – Canyon Road is a must in Santa Fe. El Farol, the restaurant I mentioned above, is just one of the restaurants you’ll find there. The Galleries and the artists they represent are some of the best I have seen anywhere. I mean, the quality is unsurpassed. I hope I can return and even take some art classes or workshops.

Ojo Caliente

The Mud Bath!
Private Soak

We took a day trip to Ojo Caliente based on recommendations from two different friends. It has been too long since Bill and I indulged in a spa visit with a massage. Well, this was worth the wait. Ojo Caliente is one of the country’s oldest health spas, with nine communal hot springs. As a special treat, we also booked a private tub for a truly tranquil experience. Then, we each had a wonderful massage by Elizabeth. Take my advice and book your visit in advance. We did not, and the earliest time for our massages was 7 pm; that’s how busy they are.

I could write a book about everything we did in Santa Fe, but these are the highlights. If you’re planning a trip, I’ll happily share even more suggestions.
