For the first time, we parked our Airstream at a Harvest Hosts location – Arlington Farm in Cape Charles, Virginia. I had tried to book other Harvest Host locations but could never find one available in our travels. I am so glad I persisted; this was a great first-time experience.
Arlington Farm
Naomi Darg was our host, but we spent more time with her Dad, Paul, a gentleman farmer from Australia. He took us on a golf cart ride around the farm, pointing out the fruit trees, vegetables, flower gardens, and the She Shed he was building for Naomi. Naomi and her Mom Narelle have a shop in the town of Cape Charles that we did not have time to visit. The shop is called Voiajer, a give-back gift shop located at 234 Mason ave Cape Charles, VA, and features recycled, up-cycled, sustainable products and/or made by artisans who might not otherwise have a means of support. Next time we travel through Cape Charles, I will make it a point to stop in.
The Moody Bees
Naomi has created The Moody Bees and sells the bees and their hive in the Gift Shop at the farm and at Voiajer, her shop in Cape Charles. Here’s the backstory – The Moody Bees live on Arlington Farm with Farmer Nay. Follow along on their adventures as they soar through the sky, and learn all about the farm and how to realize and regulate feelings. We use the zones of regulation to help the “non verbal” bees convey their emotions.
Goats, Ducks, and Dogs
In addition to The Moody Bees, there is a farm full of goats, ducks, dogs, and even a few cats. Several dogs greeted us, but the one responsible for keeping the goats in line was clearly in charge. He spied the goats trying to escape to the neighbors’ property, but he caught them and led them home. With 16 acres, they all have plenty of space to roam.
Harvest Hosts are great locations for a one-night stay en route to our next destination.
